Course contents:

Overview of river systems

Fundamentals of sediment transport, erosion and deposition

Bed forms and sedimentary structures

Alluvial river channels and bars: origin and geometry; flow and sedimentary processes; depositional models for channel bars, channel fills, and channel belts; interpretation of ancient channel deposits; prediction of ancient channel deposits from subsurface data

Floodplains: geometry, water flow, sediment transport and deposition; depositional models; soils; channel-belt movements across floodplains                             

Alluvial architecture: process-based versus stochastic models; tectonic, climatic and sea-level controls; sequence stratigraphy models

This course runs for either two days or two and a half days, and can be tailored for specific needs. Contact me if you want me to present this course at your institution.
